On examination, the problem seemed to be that the ePlaya system will display the same information
differently, depending on which browser one is using. Two pages of screenshots:
If you're still not seeing it, you can look at a side
by side comparison of slices of the screenshot cut from near where the problem occurs. See how
the dotted lines appear in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox? They shouldn't be appearing at all,
because they were set to transparent, which worked in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer. Which is
to say that the coding of ePlaya is not browser safe - basic formatting does not work the same way
in the two most commonly used browsers.
The problem presented by this should be an obvious one - a forum post is not a webpage, especially
on ePlaya. One has a limited amount of time to modify it before one can't edit it any more, and an
even more limited time before somebody else responds, and the possible appearance of dishonesty occurs
because one has modified a post after somebody has followed it up. Having to worry about how a post looks,
not in one browser, but two, or possibly even three or more, before time runs out, can rapidly become
impractical, especially if what proves to be a fix in one browser, causes damage in another. ePlaya
is the first forum I've ever been in, where such a problem has ever been seen, and with good reason.
